Permanent exhibition of the Computerspielemuseum
January 21, 2011
The new permanent exhibition of the Computerspielemuseum opens up to visitors on January 21st, 2011. The museum is located in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Visitors are taken on a historical journey covering the highlights of a process that started 60 years ago. "The Computerspielemuseum is an asset to Berlin’s cultural landscape," said the mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, on the occasion of the opening. "I am happy to see that this young medium has at last found a suitable home here." More than 60 years ago the computer became a gaming machine. Since then, digital games have contributed more to the diffusion of computers than any other application. The message of this new medium is interaction, suitable for daily use and creative possiblities, today already realised in global, interactive organised networks. In just a few years the digital game has changed the societal communication fundamentally - as printing and film have already done before. A long time misjudged as children‘s toy, computer and video games are increasingly at the focus of interest inside society.

Feb 27, 2011 - Hank Chien Reclaims Donkey Kong World Record (again and again)
January 14, 2011
Hank Chien has shown himself to be the true King of Kong simply by not waiting for his two biggest threats, Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe, to set high scores on Donkey Kong anymore — he’s going for his own scores and #winning.
Hank recorded his run at the iconic Funspot arcade on February 27, 2011 setting the new score 1,090,400 which is 22,400 points higher than his previous score. Even though he’s breaking his own scores now Hank is not about to think his score is unbeatable. In an interview Hank said:
The number of great Donkey Kong players who have surfaced since the King of Kong was released is growing rapidly. It seems like almost every week I hear of another player who has reached the killscreen. The score I have now is beatable by several of those players. It may be beaten before or even at the Kong Off. I’d be surprised if it’s not surpassed within a year.
Hank’s record will be put to the test when 10 DK players meet up to play on 10 DK machines at ‘The Kong Off‘ at ‘Richie Knucklez Arcade Games‘ on March 19 and 20 to hopefully break the ‘Guiness Book Of World Records’ record for best score in a live event, video tape, or DVD.

Jan 10, 2011 - Hank Chien Reclaims Donkey Kong World Record (again)
January 11, 2011
Coming in just at the end of 2010 and newly verified, Hank Chien has reclaimed the World Record for Donkey Kong. If you can say anything about Hank Chien, it’s that he evidently doesn’t take defeat very well. Sure, he knew not so deep down that his Donkey Kong World Record score wouldn’t last forever, but he couldn’t have foreseen that it would have been toppled so quickly.
Twice, even. But he also knew that more Kong competition would be coming his way; namely Richie Knucklez Kong-Off in March. So Hank had something to prove, and prove he did. Scoring a massive 1,068,000 points in less than three hours, Hank has officially reclaimed the high score in Nintendo’s 1981 arcade classic. We took a second to catch up with Hank to see what’s what in all things Jumpman. Visit TwinGalaxies.com for an interview with Hank. Via Twin Galaxies.

All is right with the world: Steve Wiebe is the Donkey Kong world champion.
September 20, 2010
Steve Wiebe Back On Top, Reclaims Donkey Kong World Record!
Billy Mitchell, Hank Chien, Steve Wiebe: these men are the giants of Donkey Kong, throwing the world record around like a numerical barrel. Chien bested Mitchell, then Mitchell topped Chien, and now long-time underdog Steve Wiebe has reclaimed the top spot by a whisker. Mitchell's previous best stood at 1,062,800, with Wiebe's new world record reaching 1,064,500. How much higher can these three point-based pugilists go, or will a fourth competitor enter the fray to spice things up further? Sep 20, 2010 – Official video game scorekeeping organization Twin Galaxies has announced that the World Record on the classic arcade game Donkey Kong has changed hands for the third time this year as former champion Steve Wiebe climbs back into the top spot with a score of 1,064,500 points. As reported from Gather, Wiebe was playing in a 2 hour marathon session and managed to acculumate 1,064,500 points, almost 2,000 points higher than the previous world record. All is right with the world: Steve Wiebe is the Donkey Kong world champion. For now. If you haven't heard of him already, Wiebe was one protagonist of King of Kong: Fist Full of Quarters, a hilarious documentary about two men competing for the world record in the Donkey Kong arcade game. Wiebe was a middle school science teacher trying to make ends meet; his rival, Billy Mitchell, was an arrogant uber-successful arcade champion and somewhat successful restaurant owner.
To get you up to speed after the events of the movie:
- Wiebe finally officially got the world record in the spring of 2007... - Only to have Billy Mitchell take it back a few months later. - Some random player Hank Chien beat both their scores in March 2010 - Mitchell, not to be outdone, took it back on July 31, 2010 On August 30, 2010, Wiebe submitted his 1,064,000 point score - about 2,000 points higher than Mitchell's previous score. Twin Galaxies, the official gaming world record scorekeepers, just verified his score today. Three cheers for Wiebe, who's proving persistence always pays off even if you have to lose some pride and shed a few tears to get to your dream. New York plastic surgeon becomes new Donkey Kong record holder
March 9, 2010
There's a new Donkey Kong world record holder, and it's not Steve Wiebe or Billy Mitchell--it's Hank Chien, a 35-year-old plastic surgeon from New York. Read on to find out more about the new king of Kong.
Steve Wiebe's quest to take back the Donkey Kong world record at GDC just got a little tougher. A new record of 1,061,700 points has been set, and--surprise--it's not from Billy Mitchell. The new record holder is Hank Chien, a 35-year-old plastic surgeon from New York. Billy Mitchell was the previous record holder, with 1,050,200 points. While Chien's name may lack the marquee value of the documentary duo, he's no stranger to gaming world records, having previously captured the top scores for every level in the PS3 version of Lemmings and the Japanese arcade version of Donkey Kong (which is listed separately than the differently structured U.S. version by Twin Galaxies). Chien's next goals include attempting to put even more distance between his score and those of Wiebe and Mitchell, recapturing the many Lemmings records he's lost in the chase for the Donkey Kong score, and a secret third title. Don't expect it to be a hit arcade game, though, as Chien told Twin Galaxies "It's nothing big, in fact it's quite the opposite; a very small title that I stumbled upon accidentally and have been playing while on Donkey Kong breaks."
